For many children, the education they receive in their local public school is their best hope for a chance to live the American dream. Yet fifty years after Brown v. Board of Education, gross inequities still exist in America’s public schools. Public schools in low-income communities typically receive the fewest resources, are assigned the least experienced teachers, and have the worst physical facilities. Shortfalls in state and federal education funding have hit inner-city public schools the hardest. For poor and disadvantaged children, a quality public education is often the only bridge to opportunities for a better life.
Kids attending these public schools need our help. A gift to PEN’s annual campaign will support the work of PEN and its members in the fight to ensure that our most vulnerable children receive a quality public education.
Yes, I want to support quality public education. Public education opens the door for all children to a future as productive and responsible citizens in a democratic and civil society.
Your contribution will help ensure that everyday, in every community, every child in America benefits from a quality public education.
